A Guy With Muscular Dystrophy Finished The Boston Marathon In 20 Hours (Video)

The Boston Marathon was on Monday, but it technically didn’t end until early yesterday morning, when the last runner crossed the finish line.  39-year-old Maickel Melamed is a college professor from Venezuela who suffers from muscular dystrophy, and he finished in last place after walking all 26.2 miles.  Obviously winning wasn’t the point though, finishing was, and a solid portion of it was during a downpour.  But even though he finished at 4:50 in the morning, there were still dozens of people cheering him on.

This is actually the fifth marathon he’s done to raise awareness for muscular dystrophy.  He’s also done them in Berlin, Chicago, Tokyo, and New York.  He says this is the last one he’ll do, but he’s planning to find other ways to keep challenging himself, and inspiring other people to do the same.  He told the news it was an honor to have done the marathon, and one of his supporters said he’s the “embodiment of a prayer for peace.”
