Did you know that Park Rangers carry stun guns? Well, due to a Hawaii Park Ranger shooting someone with his taser for flying a drone over a volcano, you do now. Travis Ray Sanders was using his drone to get footage of lava at Hawaii Volcano National Park when a Park Ranger started yelling at him because flying an unmanned aircraft is illegal on park property.
The ranger says that Travis was confrontational and ignored his warning and ultimately ended up using his taser before arresting him. Travis claims that he cooperated with the ranger and his tasing and arrest were unnecessary and abuses of power. He ended up spending the night in jail before posting $500 bail. Its basically turned into a case of he said, he said with both sides disputing each other.
Let this story serve as a warning: If you fly your drone near a national park, be ready to yell “Don’t taze me bro!“
