Gardener Finds A Mysterious Fruit Growing On Her Tomato Plant (Video)

While picking her cherry tomatoes in her garden recently, a Kansas woman noticed something that did not fit in.  Her garden, in which she grows only cherry tomatoes and watermelon, yielded something unfamiliar.  It looked as though the tomatoes and watermelon had combined, forming what she referred to as a “watermato” or “tomellon.”  However, a horticulture expert quickly pointed out that this type of hybrid was impossible, because tomatoes and watermelons are not in the same genetic family.

As it turns out, the mystery fruit was not a mystery at all.  It was an eggplant.  Eggplants and tomatoes are in the same genetic family, therefore making it possible that there was some cross pollination at some point in the past.  Well now.  That was easily explained.
