Teen Basketball Player Impaled By Broken Court Floor (Video)

This…this is one of those freak things that you’d never even imagine being possible.

A 14-year-old female basketball player in Wisconsin was injured in a very peculiar way during a game over the weekend.  While running down the court, she collided with a member of the other team and fell to the floor…something that probably happens a dozen times in a game.  This time, however, was different.

After she fell to the floor, she slid a bit, but then abruptly stopped.  Why?  Because part of the court floor was splintered and sticking up a bit.  She slid right over that spot, and a piece of the floor between three and four inches long impaled her in the stomach!  Emergency crews showed up, the gym was cleared and she was taken to the hospital.  And somehow, there wasn’t even any blood!

She spent the night in the hospital where exploratory surgery was performed to make sure there were not additional perforations.  She was released the next day and is expected to be playing again very soon.  As for the court, it has been temporarily repaired, with a more permanent repair coming this week.
