During a baseball game, it’s considered disrespectful to the pitcher and other team when a batter “flips” their bat after a home run. It’s showing off. Showboating. But while taking batting practice during Spring Training? That’s fair game! Especially if the batter IS a pitcher!
San Diego Padres’ pitcher, James Shields was taking a few cracks during Spring Training the other day and really got ahold of one. His teammates went nuts, no doubt fueling one of the most impressive bat flips we’ve seen to date. In fact, we’re not entirely convinced that the bat didn’t travel further than the ball. Shields screaming, “That’s how I bat flip, boys!” is just the icing on the cake!
