Kanye West was on “Ellen” yesterday and she was nice enough to let him go on one of his extended rants. In fact, he went on for almost six minutes uninterrupted. Which kind of felt strange on a daytime talk show.
He hit on a lot of the usual stuff: How he has ideas to help the human race, but people don’t believe in him, how difficult it is to be an artist and a renaissance man, how he’s misunderstood and how people want to tear him down.
It wasn’t an angry rant, and he’s so passionate that you want to pull for him, until you realize he’s Kanye, and he’s way too inside his own head.
At one point, he said, “I’m sitting there with Obama, and Leo (DiCaprio) is talking about the environment, and I’m talking about clothes, and everyone looks at me like ‘That’s not an important issue.’ But I remember going to school in fifth grade, and wanting to have a cool outfit.” Huh?
It’s a little disjointed, but basically it sounds like he wants to create fashion that’s affordable for everybody. And how that IS important to poor kids. Thanks Kanye!
