Congressman Opts Out Of Moment Of Silence For Orlando Victims, Gives Statement Instead (Video)

Watching this may rub some people the wrong way, and that’s fine.  But just know that we’re posting it because we feel it’s a very good response to all of the hollow-feeling moments of silence that take place after a tragedy like the 50 people murdered at the night club in Orlando on Sunday morning.  Yes, those victims need to be remembered.  But is a moment of silence really the best we can do?  We don’t think so.  And Massachusetts Congressman Jim Himes doesn’t, either.

Watch Himes’ statement below, where he basically says that the moments of silence are good for PR, but don’t actually do anything.  And if we really want to make a difference and stop these mass shootings, actual steps need to be taken.

What do you think?
