Every once in a while, there’s something you come across that you know can’t be real. Reason tells you there’s no way – unicorns, debt free tuition, an easy diet…or in this case, waking up from surgery with a crazy British accent. The last one is what happened to a Texas native after waking up from jaw surgery to correct an overbite.
Doctors have diagnosed her with foreign accent syndrome, an ailment likely resulting from nerve damage sustained during the surgery. Six months later, and this Texan mother is still sporting a spot on British accent, even though she was born and raised in the southern United States. Sounds unbelievable, but this is apparently a real mental health issue, but pretty uncommon. Less than 100 people have been diagnosed with in in the last 100 years.
