This is one of the saddest damn stories ever.
An elderly couple in Thousand Oaks, California is being evicted from their home of 50 years. But it’s not a greedy landlord or bank that is kicking them to the curb. It’s their own grandson!
A few years ago, Helen and Hank Kawecki got a loan from their grandson to help them make ends meet. In doing so, the grandson convinced them to sign over the deed to the house to him. That’s when things went downhill fast. The grandson took out three different loans against the house, for $360,000, $65,000 and $47,500. He then put the house up for sale and would have a realtor show the house when Helen and Hank were out.
The couple had no idea what was going on until a neighbor alerted them to the realtor activity that was going on when they were out. They’re obviously heartbroken and in shock over the whole matter. When they confronted their grandson, he hit the road and hasn’t come back.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Helen and Hank try and dig out from this whole mess. Hopefully, everything will somehow work out for them.
