Family Loses Their Dog After It Was Accidentally Adopted From The Shelter (Video)

As if it wasn’t heartbreaking enough that it’s Thursday instead of Friday, here’s a pet adoption story that actually sucks. A couple of months ago, a couple was forced to board their dog, Diego, after losing their home. They had gotten the dog to help their son who has been ill for most of his life. They left the dog to be boarded, filled out contracts and were being charged $10 a day. When the time came to pick up Diego, the shelter called, waited a day and then put Diego up for adoption.  If the family wanted Diego back, they would have to re-adopt him.

When Benjamin Wittman returned to the shelter, $150 adoption fee in hand, he ended up there at the same time as another family who wanted to adopt Diego. The executive director of the shelter, Susan Woodward then made the decision to adopt out Diego to the new family, saying that he needed a more stable home and that she would make the same choice again if she had to.

Thanks, Susan.  You’ve broken hearts everywhere.
