One Of Auburn’s Toomer’s Corner Trees Set On Fire After LSU Win (Video)

One of the coolest traditions in college football is the rolling of Toomer’s Corner.  After an Auburn victory, fans converge on a group of old oak trees in downtown Auburn and absolutely cover it with toilet paper.  And this weekend was no different.

After a victory over LSU, the tradition continued and the trees were blanketed in Charmin.  But one guy, obviously not an Auburn fan, decided he had seen enough.  He walked up to the tree, lit some of the toilet paper on fire and walked away.  Now, if you’ve never burned toilet paper before, you probably have no idea how fast that stuff goes up!  Within seconds, the entire tree was engulfed in flames.  Luckily, the fire department was on the scene pretty quickly and the fire was put out.  The extent of the damage to the tree remains unknown and may not be known for several weeks.

29-year-old Jochen Wiest has been arrested and charged with desecration of a venerable object, which is a class A misdemeanor in Alabama.  If convicted, Weist faces up to one year in jail and $6,000 in fines.
