Unwanted Subject

On December 9th around 11:10 p.m., police responded to an apartment at 250 Bald Eagle Lane for a report of an unwanted subject. Police located 36-year-old Xavier Bigcrow of Rapid City inside the apartment. It was apparent that Bigcrow was intoxicated. Police were advised by the tenant of the apartment that Bigcrow was not welcome there. Police determined Bigcrow was on probation and he was brought outside while police worked to contact his probation officer. Shortly after police brought Bigcrow outside, he pointed at the officer’s duty firearm and indicated he was going to take it. As Bigcrow lunged at the officer, the officer created distance between himself and Bigcrow. The officer used loud, repetitive commands to get Bigcrow to place his hand behind his back so he could be handcuffed. Shortly after being handcuffed, Bigcrow began to become increasingly uncooperative. As Bigcrow attempted to grab at the officer again, he was brought to the ground. At this point, a bystander stepped in to assist the officer in maintaining control of Brigcrow on the ground. A short time late, assisting officers arrived on scene and Bigcrow was placed in a WRAP safety restraint system. Bigcrow was arrested for Simple Assault on Law Enforcement and a Probation Hold before being transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital.
