On December 13th at around 12:40 p.m., police responded to the intersection of 5th Street and Omaha Street for a report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash. On arrival, police observed that a Dodge Pickup was stopped in the crosswalk at the west side of the intersection. Police made contact with the pedestrian and determined they had only received minor injuries from the collision. Police made contact with the driver of the pickup, identified as 51-year-old Steven Meyer of Rapid City. Police noted the strong smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from Meyer’s person. Meyer’s speech was heavily slurred and he struggled to keep his balance while walking. Police were also made aware that Meyer’s pickup had struck a vehicle parked in the 700 block of St. Joseph Street. Meyer was ultimately placed under arrest for DUI 2nd, Hit-and-Run Accident, Hit-and-Run Injury Accident, and Reckless Driving.
