University Of Michigan Surprises A Walk-On Basketball Player With A Scholarship (Video)

The University of Michigan has been known to have a pretty great basketball team with a great group of guys! Now senior Andrew Dakich has officially been granted his well-deserved scholarship as a walk-on!

Dakich has been with the team for three years after being turned down to red-shirt. Originally, coach John Beilein wanted to keep the scholarship open to a midseason transfer, but ended up surprising Dakich with the scholarship for his last semester at U of M.

Like any big moment, there should be an extravagant plan, because just simply telling him about the scholarship isn’t nearly as exciting. So putting Dakich through an emotional roller coaster during a team meeting seemed like the best way to go. Coach Beilein ended up having two police officers come into the meeting and tell Dakich that he needed to come with them and answer some questions concerning his involvement in open investigations. Dakich was obviously confused and scared, and honestly, we can’t blame him one bit!  After scaring Dakich, they then told him that he was receiving a full-ride basketball scholarship for his final year.

We wish Dakich the best and hope we don’t have our happiest moments prefaced with police coming for us too!
