Theft/Pursuit

On January 15th at around 2:40 p.m., police were dispatched to 737 Disk Drive for a report of a theft that had just occurred. Two females were seen leaving the store with bags full of unpaid merchandise. The females got into a dark colored SUV before leaving the area. The description of the suspect vehicle was aired over the radio, and another officer soon located the SUV and initiated a traffic stop in the area of 143rdAvenue and Country Road. The vehicle did not stop for police and headed north on Dyess Avenue. Ultimately, a South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper was able to successfully deploy stop sticks on the vehicle in the area of Elk Creek Road and Haines Avenue. The vehicle came to a stop in the 11400 block of Haines Avenue. Three suspects were ordered out of the vehicle. The driver is identified as 27-year-old Brittany Junta of Rapid City. The other two occupants are identified as 31-year-old Jeremiah Poorbear of Rapid City, and 35-year-old Jocelyn Beareagle of Rapid City. All three were positively identified as the suspects seen in the earlier theft and stolen merchandise was located inside the vehicle. A small baggie containing a substance field-testing positive for methamphetamine was located in a purse belonging to Junta. Ultimately Junta was placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Ingestion of a Controlled Substance, Eluding, Felony Theft, and a Warrant. Poorbear was arrested for Felony Theft and on Warrants. Beareagle was arrested for Felony Theft. All were transported to the Pennington County Jail.
