Pursuit

On February 14th around 9:05 p.m., police observed a Toyota Corolla travelling northbound on Allen Avenue at an extremely high rate of speed before turning west onto Anamosa Street. Police attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, but it continued without stopping. The vehicle continued westbound on Anamosa Street before coming to a stop at the intersection of Anamosa Street and Silver Street. Police made contact with the driver and noted the strong smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s person. The driver, identified as 42-year-old Timothy Abbott of Rapid City, was placed into handcuffs and detained as officers made contact with the front-seat passenger. The front-seat passenger, later identified as 25-year-old Jason Maxon of Rapid City, was highly uncooperative with police. Police observed an open alcoholic beverage container on the passenger side floor of the vehicle. As police worked to detain Maxon, he elbowed an officer in the abdomen. He was placed in handcuffs after other officers arrived to assist. A second passenger, sitting in the backseat, was identified as 18-year-old Alyssa Carrasco of Rapid City. It was determined she had been drinking, and she was placed under arrest for Minor Consuming and a Warrant. Abbot and Maxon were both placed under arrest. And transported to the Pennington County Jail. While on the way to the jail, Abbott made several threatening statements about the responding officers. All-in-all, Abbott was placed under arrest for Aggravated Eluding, DUI (2nd), Reckless Driving, three counts of Threatening Law Enforcement, and a Probation Hold. Maxon was placed under arrest for Resisting Arrest and Simple Assault on Law Enforcement.
