Intoxicated driver

On March 26th at around 3:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a possibly intoxicated driver. Police located the suspect vehicle driving eastbound on Omaha Street and a traffic stop was initiated on the minivan. The minivan came to a stop near the intersection of Omaha Street and West Blvd. Police made contact with the driver who was asked to step out of the vehicle. The passenger was identified as 33-year-old Taccara Laclaire of Rapid City. The driver informed police that he was picked up by Leclaire and had taken over driving after he realized she was to intoxicated to be driving. As police spoke to the driver, Leclaire was observed jumping into the driver’s seat of the minivan. Leclaire put the vehicle in drive and proceeded southbound on West Blvd. at a high rate of speed. The vehicle ran the stoplight at Main Street and collided with another vehicle. Leclaire attempted to flee the scene of the crash in the minivan but officers were able to pull Leclaire from the vehicle and get her into handcuffs. In the meantime, police checked on the occupants of the other vehicle involved in the crash and verified they were not in need of immediate medical attention.  Ultimately, Leclaire was placed under arrest for DUI (3rd), Aggravated Eluding, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Resisting Arrest,  No Proof of Insurance, Open Container in a Motor Vehicle, Driving Under Suspension, and a Parole Hold.
