On 6/11/17 at about 10:15 PM, an officer made a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of West Main and Cross. The reason for the stop was that the vehicle swerved out of its lane. The driver was identified as Neil Short Bull, age 30 of Rapid City. The officer conducted a DUI investigation and subsequently attempted to arrest Mr. Short Bull. Mr. Short Bull punched the officer in the face, knocking him to the ground. He followed the officer to the ground and continued punching him in the head several more times. Another officer was just arriving as this occurred. The second officer deployed the Taser on Mr. Short Bull which ended his assaultive behavior. Mr. Short Bull was arrested for Driving Under the Influence 3rd Offense, Improper Lane Change, No Proof of Insurance, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing an Officer and Simple Assault on Law Enforcement. The officer was treated for minor injuries at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
