Police Continue to Urge Parents to get Involved During Thursday Night Concerts

June 22, the downtown Thursday evening concert events are still experiencing an increase in juvenile disturbances and physical fights at these community events.

In the last two weeks, the Rapid City Police Department has had to intervene on at least eight separate occasions for fights or disturbances involving juveniles under the age of 16.  Additionally, officers were able to proactively intervene in several other juvenile disturbances before an actual physical altercation occurred.

The RCPD is holding the involved parties accountable through investigations into simple assaults, probation violations, incidents of disorderly conduct, and destruction of private property.

After the concert this week the Rapid City Police Department responded to 5th St. and St. Joseph St. for a report of several juvenile males utilizing a blunt object to break a car windshield.  This incident is currently under investigation, and anyone with further information is encouraged to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 605-394-4134.

Again, the Rapid City Police Department would like to remind parents the Thursday evening summer concert events in downtown Rapid City are not a place to leave juveniles unsupervised. Lt. Scott Sitts is urging parents to always remain attentive to the whereabouts of their children and requests they accompany their children to the event.
