Man Tired Of Waiting For City To Build Park Steps Builds Them For $550 Instead Of $65,000 (Video)

This story is such a ridiculous example of bureaucratic red tape and it sure to make you a little angry.

Toronto man Adi Astl saw a problem and came up with a solution.  In a park near his house, there is a very steep slope from a parking lot down to a garden area where many people have fallen.  The city came up with an estimate of $65,000-$150,000 to build steps to make the area a little safer, which seemed completely ridiculous  to Astl.  So he took matters into his own hands.

Adi took up a little collection with neighbors, hired a homeless man for the help and built steps on his own in a matter of hours for just $550.  And everyone is happy with the new steps, right?  Well, not so much.  Residents love the steps, as it makes their walk much safer.  But city officials aren’t pleased and are saying that the stairs might be torn down because they were not build to specifications.  Again, bureaucratic red tape.

So now we wait for a resolution.  The city said that they are going to come up with a more reasonable estimate for a new flight of stairs, which is nice.  But should it have taken a man building them on his own for that to happen?  Absolutely not.
