A Pennington County Sheriff’s Deputy was in Box Elder looking for fugitive Cassandra Deanna Quiver, 30, of Rapid City. Quiver was wanted for a felony bench warrant for possession of controlled drugs.

The deputy encountered Quiver and Cruz Louis Deleon, 21, of Rapid City, at 701 Halsey Drive in Box Elder. Deleon pointed a handgun at the deputy. The deputy responded by firing a duty weapon. Deleon is being treated for a non-life threatening injury. The deputy was not injured.

Deleon has been arrested on a felony warrant for bond revocation for the following four charges: possession of a controlled weapon, unauthorized ingestion of a controlled substance, possession of controlled drug, and a charge of committing or attempting to commit a felony with a firearm. Quiver was arrested on her outstanding drug warrant.

According to policy, the deputy was placed on administrative leave. The investigation was turned over to the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) with assistance from the Box Elder Police Department and the Rapid City Police Department. DCI will determine if Deleon will face additional charges related to this shooting incident.
