Traffic Stop

On August 3rd around 10:25 p.m., police observed a passenger vehicle commit a stoplight violation at the intersection on Canyon Lake Drive and Sheridan Lake Road. A traffic stop was made on the vehicle. Police made contact with the driver, identified as 26-year-old Ethan Audiss of Rapid City. Police noted the strong smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle. Audiss was asked to step out of the vehicle. As he did so, a knife fell from his person to the ground. Police observed another knife on his person. As police secured the second knife, Audiss ran from the scene. As he was running south from the scene, he tripped and fell to the ground. Officers were able to detain Audiss at Taser-point before he was placed in handcuffs. A tow truck was called for the vehicle. During a pre-tow inventory of the vehicle, police located another knife, nunchucks, and a digital scale which field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Audisss was arrested for Obstruction, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Ingestion of a Controlled Substance, No Driver’s License, No Proof of Insurance, and the Stoplight Violation.
