Gunshot Wound

At around 7:50 p.m. on August 5th, police were called to 415 E. North Street for a report of two males who had been shot. Police located the two individuals and secured the firearm involved in the shooting. Both were transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital for the treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. After further investigation, police determined that both men were sitting in a pickup outside of 415 E. North Street. The man in the driver’s seat was attempting clear a jam in his loaded revolver. The gun discharged and struck the driver in the leg. The bullet continued through the driver’s leg and struck the passenger in his leg. Impairment by alcohol or drugs does not appear to be a factor in the incident.

The safe handling of firearms is imperative for responsible firearm ownership. Always make sure a weapon is unloaded before cleaning it or working on it. Never point a loaded gun at anything you do not intend to shoot.
