Pursuit

At around 8:45 p.m. on August 4th, police responded to the 1400 block of Eglin Street for a report of an intoxicated individual harassing patrons of the surrounding businesses. Witnesses informed police that the suspect had entered a green passenger vehicle and had driven to 1846 Eglin Street. As the primary officer arrived, he observed the passenger vehicle travelling east through the parking lot adjacent to the business. The vehicle drove over a curb and onto a concrete island within the parking lot. The officer activated his emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop and turned to head eastbound on Eglin, then north on E. North Street, then east on Interstate-90. The pursuit turned onto Highway 14-16, then north onto N. Ellsworth Road where a Tactical Vehicle Intervention was successfully performed. The suspect vehicle came to a stop on the west side of the road. The driver exited the vehicle, but refused to comply with officer commands. A K9 unit was also involved in the pursuit. Multiple warnings were made by the K9 officer that he was going to deploy the police K9 if the suspect did not comply. The suspect turned to flee the area. The police K9 was deployed and bit the suspect. At this point, the driver indicated that he was going to comply and the dog was called off the bite. The suspect was identified as 44-year-old Christopher Alvarado of Box Elder. Officers noted the strong smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person and his inability to stand without swaying. A medical unit was called to evaluate Alvarado. Ultimately, Alvarado was placed under arrest for DUI (3rd), Aggravated Eluding, Driving Under Revocation, and Obstruction.
