On August 7th around 11:55 p.m., police were dispatched to 35 Omaha Street for a report of a fight. On arrival police observed a male get into a passenger vehicle and begin driving across the parking lot. An employee of the business ran out to inform the officer that this individual was involved in the fight. Police stopped the vehicle near one of the exits of the parking lot. The driver, identified as 31-year-old Randal Martell of Rapid City, immediately exited the vehicle. He was detained in handcuffs and the officer noted the strong smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Following a DUI investigation, Martell was placed under arrest for three counts of Simple Assault and DUI (4th). During a pre-tow inventory of the vehicle, police located marijuana and associated paraphernalia, along with a loaded pistol located in the driver’s door panel. Martell was booked into the Pennington County Jail with the additional offences of Possession of a Loaded Firearm while Intoxicated, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
