Pursuit

On August 24th at around 10:30 p.m., police observed a passenger car travelling west on Highway 44 at a high rate of speed. The officer activated is patrol car’s radar system and clocked the vehicle travelling more than 20 miles-per-hour above the posted limit. The officer turned around and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle did not stop for police and instead continued travelling. The vehicle finally came to a stop at the southeast entrance to the Fairgrounds. Police made contact with the driver, identified as 39-year-old Aaron Olson of Rapid City, and advised him he was being placed under arrest for Eluding Law Enforcement. During their interactions with Olson, police noted the smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Olson was ultimately placed under arrest for the additional offence of DUI. He was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
