Man dies swimming at Pactola

Jerome Carlos Dillon, 36, of Rapid City, has been identified as the individual who was pulled from Pactola Reservoir Monday, August 28, 2017. The Rapid City man was swimming with family near the visitors’ center along US Highway 385.

 

Game Fish & Parks and Forest Service officers were first to the scene and pulled Dillon from the water. The Johnson Siding Fire Department performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation and Dillon was transported in critical condition to Rapid City Regional Hospital by Lifeflight helicopter. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

 

The on-scene investigation supports the belief this is an apparent drowning, an no autopsy is planned.  An official cause of death will be determined pending final toxicology results.
