Traffic Stop

On September 10th around 12:55 a.m., an officer was in the area of 100 Stumer Road when he observed a passenger vehicle in the area driving with a non-functional headlight. As the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle continued onto 5th Street at a high rate of speed. Given the high speeds, the officer made the decision to terminate the pursuit. A short time later, another officer observed the vehicle pull into the area of 6th Street and Meade Street and stop before the male driver and female passenger fled the vehicle on foot. A police K9 unit was called to the area to track the suspects. The K9 track was successful in locating the female passenger, identified as 20-year-old Amber Longsoldier of Rapid City. Longsoldier was located hiding near a shed in the 500 Block of Saint Anne Street. She was taken into custody and placed under arrest for Obstruction and a Warrant. In the meantime, police made contact with several other occupants still inside the vehicle. One of them, identified as 18-year-old Tristan Pope of Rapid City, attempted to give police a false name. Once officers positively identified him, he was placed under arrest for Impersonation to Deceive Law Enforcement and a Warrant. Police continue to investigate the incident.
