Family violence warrants sweep

Family violence is a big problem nationwide, whether it’s domestic violence, child neglect or failure to pay child support. That is why the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office and Parole Services joined in the national family violence warrants sweep.

Thursday, October 19, 2017, 14 team members swept across Pennington County to serve 30 warrants, including follow-ups on four no-contact or protection orders. There were 34 unsuccessful attempts to serve warrants.

Sgt. Todd Battest in the Warrants Division is pleased with the one-day effort. “Family violence is important to the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office. This gives us an opportunity to participate in a national effort to focus on these family issues. We brought a lot of resources together from different divisions of the Sheriff’s Office and Parole Services to make this annual event a success,” said Sgt. Battest.

Clackamas County, Washington launched this effort 15 years ago. Agencies throughout the United States now join in this annual one-day sweep to arrest persons with outstanding family-violence warrants.
