Pursuit

On October 21st around 1:10 a.m., police observed a Cadillac sedan driving in the area of Main Street and West Boulevard without an illuminated license plate. A traffic stop on the vehicle was attempted, but the vehicle continued west on Main Street without stopping. The pursuit proceeded in a generally westbound direction. While the Cadillac was westbound on Canyon Lake Drive, the pursuing officer successfully performed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention. A TVI is a police driving technique in which an officer uses the front of his patrol car to gently nudge the rear of the suspect vehicle, causing it to enter a controlled spin and come to a halt. The driver, 26-year-old Codi Ironroad of Rapid City, was ordered out of the vehicle. She was handcuffed and, following a DUI investigation, placed under arrest for Aggravated Eluding, Open Container in a Motor Vehicle, and DUI (3rd).
