Rapid City/Pennington County Special Response Team captures Rapid City’s most wanted fugitive

After being declared ‘Rapid City’s most wanted fugitive,’ 23-year-old warrant subject Saul Crowe has been safely taken into custody. He was captured at approximately 6:30 p.m. on October 31st after an hours-long callout of the joint Rapid City/Pennington County Response Team.

Following up on information garnered by the ongoing investigation, detectives were able to track Crowe to a trailer home at 1702 E. Highway 44. It was determined the home belonged to someone allowing Crowe to hide there. With this information, police formed a containment perimeter around the neighborhood. Given Crowe’s dangerous behavior exhibited during previous attempts to flee capture by law enforcement, Western Dakota Technical Institute was placed on lockdown to ensure the safety of students during the SRT response to the location.

As in any other SRT operation dealing with a suspect barricaded inside of a residence, dozens of attempts were made to encourage Crowe to exit the building peacefully. None of these attempts were successful. Knowing Crowe was likely armed, and knowing he may harm a second barricaded subject inside the residence, the decision was made to make entry into the trailer.

The SRT entry team that made contact with Crowe quickly deployed a Taser, as well as a police K9 to safely get Crowe into custody inside the residence. At the time of contact, Crowe was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun. The firearm was determined to be stolen. The second subject was also safely detained and brought out of the residence. Crowe was arrested on his two warrants, and for the offenses of Resisting Arrest, Obstruction, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Receiving Stolen Property, and Commission of a Felony with a Firearm.

“I could not be more proud of each and every member of the law enforcement response to this situation,” says Captain Tony Harrison, Deputy Commander of the RC/PC SRT. “This team worked in a calculated and methodical manner to obtain the best possible outcome in this dangerous situation. The successful capture of Saul Crowe means that he will answer for his crimes committed in our community.”
