So what do you do when someone steals your idea or infringes upon your intellectual property? You send a cease and desist, right? Yup! But the way that Budweiser did it was just spectacular.
Minneapolis-based Modist Brewing Company has a new Double IPA called “Dilly Dilly.” Dilly Dilly, however, is a phrase that was trademarked for a series of Bud Light ads, so naturally, that didn’t go over too well with Bud Light parent company Budweiser. But instead of making a huge deal out of it and getting lawyers involved, Budweiser sent an old-timey town crier to Modist to deliver a cease and desist. The C&D was written in old English and the town crier even read it from a scroll!
All in all, it seems like Budweiser and Modist are both cool with the whole situation. Bud even invited some of the Modist staff to join then as guests at the Super Bowl in January! No harm, no foul, right? We think so!
