Airbnb is looking into security concerns after receiving multiple complaints of people finding hidden cameras in their rentals.
One of the first cases we saw was when this couple found a tiny hidden camera up in the smoke detector of their bedroom! It turned out too, the owner of the home would use that room and camera to film his sex parties.
Meghan Hilden took a trip to Switzerland back in 2016. When she got into her Airbnb, she found a cellphone under the sink in the bathroom propped up to take video! Upon further inspection, Hilden also found an iPad recording.
There have also been more similar reports.
Apparently if the property owners have cameras on their property they have to disclose it and then if guests consent when they book the place it’s all legal.
So if you are traveling over the holidays, Airbnb suggests people use digital device detectors! Yup, that’s their solution.
