Pursuit

On December 14th at around 1:45 a.m., an officer was westbound on Main Street, approaching 6th Street when a Mazda 6 fail to stop for a red light while northbound through the intersection of 6th Street and Main Street. The officer was forced to brake to avoid a collision with the vehicle. The vehicle turned east on Omaha Street before heading northbound on Campbell Street, and then North onto E. North Street. The pursuit then continued westbound on I-90 before the suspect vehicle turned onto Haines Avenue and continued north for several miles. Ultimately, the pursuit ended up travelling along Green Meadows Drive and into a private driveway. The driver then began to exit the vehicle and run from the area. A police K9 officer was also on scene and deployed his service dog which caught up to the fleeing suspect and bit him. Police were able to get the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Jacob Truman of Box Elder, into handcuffs. Meanwhile, police ordered the other occupants of the vehicle out of the car. One of the occupants is identified as 19-year-old Maegen Claymore of Rapid City. A search of the vehicle turned up a plastic baggie which field-tested positive for methamphetamine, along with syringes. A baggie containing methamphetamine was also located on Truman’s person. Truman was ultimately placed under arrest for Aggravated Eluding of Law Enforcement, Reckless Driving, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Ingestion of a Controlled Substance, Driving without a License, and a Warrant. Claymore was placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance, and No Proof of Insurance. Both were transported to the Pennington County Jail.
