Pursuit

On December 17th at around 3:20 a.m., police were dispatched to the intersection of 5th Street and Texas Street for a report of a pickup that was stopped in the middle of the road with the driver sleeping behind the wheel. Police located the vehicle and observed a female, later identified as 38-year-old Shavonne Flyinghorse of Lake Andes, unconscious in the driver’s seat with an open alcoholic beverage in the vehicle’s cup holder. The officer attempted to open the door of the truck in order to turn the engine off, but the vehicle was locked. Flyinghorse woke up and the officer instructed her to shut the vehicle off. She instead put the vehicle in drive and a slow speed pursuit was initiated. The vehicle ended up coming to a stop in the 3600 Block of Maple Avenue. Flyinghorse exited the vehicle and it was evident she had a hard time standing on her own. Police also noted her slurred speech, and the strong smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from her person. A search of the vehicle turned up several half-smoked marijuana cigarettes. After a DUI investigation, Flyinghorse was placed under arrest for Eluding Law Enforcement, DUI, Open Container in a Motor Vehicle, and Possession of Marijuana. She was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
