Clay Matthews Thought He Knew The Play The Panthers Were Running Until Cam Newton Flipped The Script (Video)

NFL players spend HOURS watching film of their competitors on a weekly basis. It’s the best way for them to get inside info for the upcoming game. If they know the opposition’s tendencies, they can stop them.

Clay Matthews of the Green Bay Packers had obviously watched a ton of film on the Carolina Panthers last week, because he thought for sure that he knew what play they were going to run. On-field mics picked up the following exchange between Matthews and Cam Newton, the Panthers quarterback, just before the play.

Clay Matthews: “It’s that wheel route, it’s that wheel route.

Cam Newton: “You been watching film, huh?

Clay Matthews: “Yeah.

Cam Newton: “That’s cool. Watch this.

Newton then switched things up at the last minute and threw a touchdown pass to Christian McCaffrey. Burn!
