At around 5:15 a.m. on January 16th, police were conducting an extra patrol in the area of 625 E. Disk Drive. An officer observed a parked, unattended passenger car with its trunk open at the address. On further investigation, police observed a plastic baggie containing marijuana in plain view within the open trunk. Police determined the vehicle belonged to 64-year-old Kelly Barker of Rapid City who was staying in a room at the address. Police made contact with Barker at his room and noted the smell of burnt marijuana coming from the room. During a search of Barker’s vehicle, police located 14 total zip-lock baggies containing marijuana along with associated paraphernalia. A search of Barker’s person turned prior to arrest turned up a large amount of cash. Based on these factors, Barker was placed under arrest for Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
