Massachusetts Couple Accidentally Gave Away Their Life Savings In A Soup Can (Video)

Amanda Mattuchio’s parents used to keep their savings in a fake Campbell’s soup can that had a false bottom until they cleared out their cans to donate and accidentally included the cash can.

“The bottom would unscrew and it had $2,500 in it and it was a combination of $100 and $50 bills,” said Mattuchio. “The neighbor upstairs asked them if they had any canned goods they wanted to donate to the senior center.”

So the couple obliged, not realizing they had included their savings with the cans until they went to put more money in and the can was gone.

The food pantry is on the lookout for the can but has not found it yet, which is devastating for the couple.

“I would love to find the can of soup. That amount of money is a terrible, terrible loss for anyone,” said someone from the pantry. “For all I know, that Campbell tomato soup is sitting in someone’s cabinet right now and they don’t even know it.”

Of course if someone does have it, they hope someone is decent enough to return it but make no assumptions saying if someone doesn’t return it they hope that person uses the money to make their own life a little easier.

Can you imagine? First, that’s just awful for the couple but what if you found that? You open up the can expecting some hot soup and find a whole bunch of cold, hard cash, it’d be tempting for sure. But if you find it or something like that, do the right thing.
