Unfortunately when you get older, your body starts to break down a bit. Hip injuries are super common among seniors, and they’re also some of the most devastating. One in four seniors who break their hips die within one year. Well, one company is looking to change that, by preventing the hip injuries from happening in the first place!
If you’re driving in your car and you smack into something, your airbags deploy. And a France-based company is using that same technology to try and protect seniors with a belt they can wear, equipped with airbags. Active Protection is a wearable smart belt prototype that can sense when a fall is happening and deploys an airbag that wraps around the hips to protect the wearer. It’s pretty innovative technology and has the potential to prolong the lives of seniors.
As of right now, Active Protection is still in the test phase, but things like this will no doubt be commonplace in the very near future.
