98-Year-Old Sister Jean Is The Team Chaplain And Loyola’s Biggest Fan (Video)

Loyola hasn’t been to the NCAA tournament in 33 years, so the excitement level is pretty high for the Chicago-based Catholic university, especially after they upset the six-seed Miami Hurricanes 64-62 in the first round. And no one was more excited about the victory than 98-year-old Team Chaplain, Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt.

Sister Jean isn’t just the Team Chaplain, praying with the team before their games. Players describe her as another assistant coach, as she actually emails them after the game, giving them constructive criticism about the game! She scouts upcoming opponents for them. She’s a real fan! Can we all just agree that Sister Jean is a national treasure?!

When interviewed after the Miami upset, Sister Jean said:

Thank God you did it because we knew we would do it. And when we were in the locker room ahead of the game, we just knew that we would do this. Our team is so great, and they don’t care who makes the points, as long as we win the game. And I said, ‘We’re gonna get the big W up there,’ and we did.
