Police Are On The Lookout For A ‘Car Wash Bandit’ (Video)

Police have identified the man suspected of using laminated dollar bills attached to fishing line to steal thousands of dollars from auto-pay machines at car washes across multiple states.

The suspect is 55-year-old Dana Bailey, after police reviewed footage from January 25th was reviewed showing the suspect pulling up to the machine, inserting “money” and pushing a couple buttons and then stealing handfuls of change. He then pulls the fake bill out of the machine and then wiped down the areas he touched.

Police went and searched Bailey’s home, which he shares with his mom, and found evidence linking him to the car wash crookery including laminating supplies and fishing line.

Bailey’s mother said he will be gone for weeks at a time and not say where he was going and said she is proud of but worried for her son.

Turns out Bailey has been unemployed since 2008 after working as a repairman for gaming machines that accept and return cash, so his expertise in that department definitely makes him extremely likely to actually be the suspect.

They still don’t know where Bailey is but said police are looking for him in Illinois, Ohio, Iowa, New York and possibly Michigan. So if anyone sees him, let them know! Otherwise your car washes will become change-less and this douche bag will make off with even more!
