Bill Murray was on the “Today” show recently to promote his new movie Isle of Dogs and also ended up telling the hilariously embarrassing story of how he crashed Elvis Presley’s funeral back in 1977.
With Priscilla Presley just across the studio, Murray explained how he managed to get a last minute flight and make his way out to Graceland for the funeral.
As he was entering the cemetery, Murray said he remembers a riot of tons of people trying to get in so he started running through the cemetery. Once the motorcycle cops caught up to him, they told him to freeze and people driving by began to stop and point.
At first, he thought people just recognized him from his time on Saturday Night Live but as it turned out he was standing on Elvis’ mom’s grave!
Standing on a late rock and roll legend’s mother’s grave, yikes. The 70’s were a strange time, man.
