Pursuit

On March 27th at around 1:45 a.m., police observed a minivan north on 5th Street. The minivan had a non-functioning tail light. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle ant in came to stop in the area of 5th Street and Flormann Street. Police made contact with the driver and passenger. The passenger was positively identified, but the driver gave police an identity that could not be confirmed. As police worked to determine the driver’s identity, the driver put the van in drive and began pulling away from the traffic stop. The pursuit stayed in an area to the southeast of downtown Rapid City before heading east onto Saint Patrick Street. It then headed into the trailer park at 1515 E. Saint Patrick Street. Spike strips were successfully used to deflate the vehicle driver’s side rear tire. The vehicle then went back out onto Saint Patrick street, through the parking lot at 1516 E. Saint Patrick Street, onto Campbell Street, back onto E. Saint Patrick Street and then back into the trailer park at 1515 E. Saint Patrick Street. The driver stopped the vehicle and fled from the scene on foot. A Police K9 was used to track the suspect, but he was not located. Police continue to investigate the incident.
