Pursuit Assist/K9 Deployment

On March 26th at around 7:00 p.m., police learned of a vehicle pursuit involving the Meade County Sheriff’s Office that was potentially heading into Rapid City. A K9 Unit in the area located the pursuit headed eastbound on Range Road near its intersection with Soo San Drive. The suspect vehicle turned into the parking lot of 1012 Soo San Drive before proceeding out of the northeast corner of the parking lot at a low speed. The driver appeared to be looking for a place to exit the vehicle, and the K9 Officer made multiple commands not to run or the K9 would be sent after the suspect. As the vehicle continued north onto W. South Street, the driver exited the moving vehicle. A female passenger of the vehicle was able to exit the vehicle before it continued rolling forward and left the road into a ditch. The K9 Officer deployed his K9 which caught up to the suspect and bit him. The Meade County deputy took the driver into custody and transported him to the Pennington County Jail.
