On April 1st around 2:05 p.m., police responded to the area of Howard Street and Oldfield Street for a report of a rollover crash that had just occurred. On arrival, police located a Dodge Ram pickup on its roof with extensive damage. A medical unit arrived to the scene and began treating the driver, identified as 28-year-old Lukus Fite of Rapid City. Police noted the strong smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from Fite’s person. Fite was transported via ambulance for the treatment of serious injuries. While investigating the crash, police determined the vehicle was northbound on I-190 and failed to negotiate the left-hand curve in the road. The pickup went off the road and flipped several times before coming to rest on its roof. Fite was arrest for DUI, Careless Driving, and Failure to Use a Seatbelt.
