Car-vs-Pedestrian Crash

On April 21st at around 1:25 p.m., police responded to the area of 7th Street and Saint Joseph Street for a report of a car-vs-pedestrian crash. Police arrived to find a pedestrian lying in the roadway. A medical unit arrived and evaluated the pedestrian, who ultimately refused transport to the hospital. After speaking with witnesses, it was determined the pedestrian was crossing the Saint Joseph Street on the western side of the intersection with a ‘do-not-walk’ signal being displayed for the crosswalk. The passenger car, eastbound on St. Joseph Street, had a green light to proceed through the intersection when the crash occurred. Police made contact with the driver of the vehicle, identified as 26-year-old Patience Mann of Rapid City. On contact, police observed that Mann was displaying signs of impairment. Following a DUI investigation, she was determined to be too impaired to drive. She was placed under arrest for DUI (2nd offense), and Driving Under Suspension. She was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
