Apparently Boston Celtics legend, Larry Bird, was also a trash-talking legend at least according to former teammate Kevin McHale!
During an interview on the Dan Patrick Show McHale shared his favorite Larry Bird trash-talking story which happened right before the final shot of a game against Phoenix.
Now, it takes a lot to completely destroy just one person with trash talk but it takes a true master to insult an entire bench of players but that’s what Bird did.
According to McHale, the Celtics were down by two and about to set up an out-of bounds play when Bird said he was going to forgo the play and “bust a three on them.” Bird then confidently went over to the Phoenix bench and said “yeah, I’m just fixing to bust a three on you guys and just go home. I’m tired of this.”
What happened next is probably still one of the most savage “mic drop” moves in NBA history, Bird shot the ball and while it was mid-air, turned to the Phoenix bench and said “I told you so” and started walking to the locker room.
The shot went in, Celtics won, and Bird solidified himself as a true legend.
