Pursuit

On May 6th at around 1:55 a.m., police observed a passenger car in the area of E. Waterloo Street and E. Van Buren Street with an improperly illuminated license plate. A traffic stop was made on the vehicle and police made contact with the driver. Police noted the smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s person. An open beer can was also seen in the center cup holder next to the driver. The driver was identified as 33-year-old Shaun Yellowboy of Rapid City, who has a warrant for his arrest. As police worked to positively identify Yellowboy, two occupants of the vehicle exited the car. The car then sped away from the location of the traffic stop. Police pursued the vehicle as it turned west onto E. Jackson Street. The pursuit headed generally southeast to Cambell Street and then south to E. Fairmont Boulevard. The vehicle turned to head west on Fairmont Boulevard and then north on Mt. Rushmore Road. The pursuit was terminated before entering the downtown area. Police did not locate the vehicle, but a warrant for Aggravated Eluding has been requested for Yellowboy. Police continue to investigate the incident.
