Traffic Stop

At around 9:55 p.m. on June 4th, police observed a Toyota pickup driving at a high rate of speed along Saint Andrew Street. The vehicle turned into the alleyway between Saint Andrew Street and Saint Patrick Street. Police attempted to stop the vehicle as it exited the alleyway onto 3rd street and it nearly stuck a parked car before a male passenger was seen exiting the vehicle and running from the location on foot. His description was called out over the radio. Police made contact with a female walking in the area and identified her as 24-year-old Lupe Vasquez of Rapid City. She told police she was driving the suspect vehicle. It was determined she had an active warrant for her arrest. She was placed in handcuffs and a search of her backpack turned up two syringes and a baggie containing a white powdery substance. These items field-tested positive for methamphetamine. She was placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and her Warrant. In the meantime, a K9 officer responded to the area to help locate the male who fled from the vehicle. After the K9 led police through a number of yards. The male was located hiding in a grassy area. The K9 bit the man and kept him from running further. He was placed into handcuffs and identified as 36-year-old Dustin Seegrist of Rapid City. A search of his person turned up marijuana. Seegrist was placed under arrest for Obstruction, Possession of Marijuana, and a Probation Hold.
