Phil Mickelson Receives A Two-Stroke Penalty After Hitting His Ball While It Was Still Moving (Video)

Golf purists are pretty pissed at Phil Mickelson after an incident that occurred during his Saturday round at the U.S. Open.

On the 13th hole at Shinnecock Hills on Saturday, Mickelson was putting for bogey and his ball rolled past the hole; something that every one of us amateur hack golfers can relate to. Instead of going and marking his ball, Mickelson ran after his ball and then hit it AGAIN while it was still rolling! That shot also missed and Mickelson eventually marked his ball.

Mickelson ended up with a 10 on the hole; 8 shots plus a two-stroke penalty for hitting a ball that was still moving.

After the round, Mickelson basically offered up a sorry not sorry apology, saying, “If somebody is offended by that, I apologize to them, but toughen up.” He then went on to say that he figured that a two-stroke penalty would be better than if the ball had rolled off the green, causing him to have to chip and putt again.

Finally, something mildly interesting happened during a golf match!
